This will be an introduction to the concept of Emotional Intelligence, how it differs from IQ, and the impact it has on performance and success. Norma will also touch on the 4 core skills of Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social-Awareness, and Relationship-Management.

Norma Tirado is Lakeland HealthCare's Vice President of Human Resources, Information Technology, and Organizational Transformation and Chief Talent and Transformation Officer. She joined Lakeland on February 1, 2010.
Norma has extensive experience in the areas of both human resources and health information technology. Norma has taught leadership, management, and organizational development to undergraduate and graduate students and is certified on Emotional Intelligence. A graduate of Marquette University, Norma also holds an Executive Master?s degree in Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Healthcare Administration at Central Michigan University.
Professionally she is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), and a board member of the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration of the American Hospital Association.
Norma believes that a part of her responsibility as a leader is to serve the community where lives. She is the President of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, she is a board member of the Benton Harbor Promise Zone Foundation and The First Tee of Benton Harbor. She serves in the Executive Committees of both the Cornerstone Alliance and the Senior PGA. She is also a lifetime member of the NAACP.
Norma and her husband (Kevin) have three millennial children and a millennial dog!! She loves to read, knit and golf and sees her mission in life as ?Enhancing the lives of the people she serves, so they can in turn enhance the lives of the people they take care of.? Her mantra in life is that as Ghandi said, ?Be the Change you want to see in the world? and her favorite sayings are? ?If you?re not living on the edge, you?re taking up too much space? and ?Life is not Fair?, to which she adds ?get over it?.
Norma has most recently been selected by the readers of Healthcare IT News as one of the 2015 H.I.T. Men & Women of the year, she recently received the Ally of the Year Award from the OutCenter in Benton Harbor for her work in the area of Diversity, and has led an IT team that has won the most prestigious Healthcare IT Awards in the country: Davies Award of Excellence and Most Wired Healthcare.
