St. Joseph, Michigan - Get a jump start on Mardi Gras when the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra brings a taste of New Orleans to Grand Upton Hall with its February 9, 2019 concert guests, The Dukes of Dixieland.
Established by producer John Shoup in 1974, the Dukes of Dixieland have been New Orleans’ pre-eminent jazz band for nearly half a century.  With 31 albums, three PBS television shows, and an internet streamed show, the Dukes play the best NOLA music including Dr. John, Fats Domino, Huey Smith, Louis Prima, plus many of their own original tunes.
Colorful, energetic, and upbeat, the Dukes join the SMSO to perform a wide variety of pieces arranged to emphasize the full sound of an orchestra. Highlights of the concert include “Clarinet Marmalade,” “Honky Tonk Train Blues” and “What a Wonderful World.”
An optional “Creole” inspired dinner and concert package is being offered for the evening for an additional $30 per person. Patrons can enjoy a 6:00pm dinner in the Deckman Studio at The Mendel Center and walk to the concert in Grand Upton Hall without leaving the building.
